Passports and Visas

All visitors coming to Hong Kong need to hold valid passports or other travel documents.

Visitors from some of the national countries of our major trading partners do not need visas for short-term stays in Hong Kong.

Employment / Work Permits

Holders of the visitor visas are not entitled to have employment in Hong Kong during a normal visit. You must posses an Employment Visa before you can be employed in Hong Kong. You can submit your visa applications to the nearest Chinese embassy/consulates in your place of residence.

With few exceptions, you must leave Hong Kong to obtain a work permit, though some preliminary work may be done during visit.

Hong Kong Identity Card

If you are going to stay in Hong Kong for more than 3 months, you are required to obtain a Hong Kong Identity Card. All application forms and other relevant guidance notes are available at the Chinese embassy/consulate-general or the HKSAR Immigration Department.
